Linked, local 3D companies Earthware and The Technology Studio have supported this Competition from the start. Now the management team has committed to funding half of the main prize!! We have agreed that this will be the freshly announced Google Tablet from Asus, the Nexus 7, in its full 16GB size: wiki with spec. – review.
The notable features include:
You’re welcome to post your ideas for how those features can be used to support geo-modelling applications. But remember this is not about amazing devices; to become eligible to win the Nexus 7, you have to submit a 3D model!
Added to the Links page: examples of academic courses on digital 3D modelling and visualisation. Note that these topics are covered in many other applied courses also.

Here is a temporary poster we’ve issued to attract interest while we gather requests and agree dates with volunteer tutors. So please, without delay:

Our next project meeting will be held on Friday 29th June at 11:00-12:30. The priority for the next three months is to attract a credible number of entries, both from Letchworth and farther afield. Please let us know if you wish to attend or drop in about any particular issue or opportunity. The draft agenda is as follows:
Serif Europe Ltd., a Nottingham-based online retailer of software including advanced graphics tools, has generously agreed to sponsor an award for us. This will consist of the latest version of a graphic software product from its portfolio. The company “… enables businesses, educational establishments, and ordinary PC users to achieve professional-quality results …” so professional quality could be the criterion, yet to be confirmed. We welcome this new sponsor.
You may recall that we promised some kind of post-launch support for entrants as you learn more and prepare your 3D digital models. We have now set up a web log dedicated to this Competition at the Trimble SketchUp team’s Blog site: SketchUpdate. (to be put online shortly…) Please use it to share your comments and queries for advice and support etc.
